What is a ceramic coating?
Nowadays modern cookware is offered with and without non stick coating. The reason is the different cooking requirements. Our ceramic cookware can easily be identified by the "Thermoceramica"-cachet and by the use of the addendum "Pure" in the product name.
What is PFOA?
PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) is mostly used during the production of water-repellent and lipophobic non stick coatings on heat resistant materials (fluoropolymers), such as e. g. non-stick coatings on pans.
PFOA strains the environment. A stated aim of the big producers of fluoropolymers is the reduction of PFOA-emission for 95% and – until 2015 – the complete waiver of it in the production of non-stick coatings (PFOA is not contained in the pan itself). With that, also the CO2 emission will be reduced as well.
What is PTFE?
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a synthetic material (plastic) which is used since more than 40 years in the production of non-stick coated cookware. PTFE is heat resistant up to around 280 °C. At higher temperatures there is a danger of overheating which means damaging of the coating. Pans which are damaged from overheating should be disposed. So for higher temperatures the ceramic coating is a good alternative.
